ORU

Terms & Conditions

Effective date October 25, 2026

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of ORU, including the ORU mobile application, account, Journals, Letters, archive features, Media Preservation, and related services. ORU is operated by Put Jaoroenrak (“ORU,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an ORU account, purchasing an ORU product, or using ORU, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use ORU.

1. ORU

ORU is a private personal archive designed to let users write, preserve, revisit, and exchange private content. Features may include:

  • private Journals;
  • encrypted archive storage;
  • Letters;
  • Recovery Words and account-recovery tools;
  • location attachment;
  • image, video, and audio preservation;
  • Media Preservation; and
  • paid ownership or storage products.

Features may change as ORU develops.

2. Eligibility and Your Account

You are responsible for:

  • providing accurate account information where required;
  • protecting access to your ORU account;
  • securing your device;
  • securing your PIN;
  • protecting your Recovery Words; and
  • notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised.

You may not sell, transfer, sublicense, or share ownership of an ORU account or paid entitlement except where ORU expressly permits it. You may use ORU only if your use complies with applicable law and you are legally able to agree to these Terms.

3. Recovery Words and Loss of Access

ORU is designed to protect private archive content with encryption. Recovery Words may be necessary to recover access to encrypted archive content. You are responsible for storing your Recovery Words safely. Because ORU is designed without a general administrative backdoor into private encrypted content, ORU may be unable to recover your encrypted archive if you lose all trusted devices and recovery methods. Loss of Recovery Words or other required recovery credentials may therefore result in permanent loss of access to encrypted content. ORU is not responsible for loss of encrypted content caused solely by the loss of required recovery credentials, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

4. Your Content

You retain ownership of content you create or provide through ORU. This may include:

  • Journal text;
  • Letters;
  • photos;
  • video;
  • audio;
  • location information; and
  • other material you choose to preserve.

You grant ORU only the limited rights necessary to process, store, synchronize, transmit, encrypt, preserve, and otherwise operate the service in relation to your content. ORU does not obtain ownership of your private content merely because you use the service.

5. Responsibility for Content

You are responsible for the content you create, preserve, upload, or send. You must not use ORU to create, store, distribute, transmit, or facilitate content or conduct that:

  • violates applicable law;
  • infringes another person's intellectual-property or privacy rights;
  • constitutes harassment, threats, exploitation, stalking, or abuse;
  • promotes or facilitates criminal conduct;
  • contains unlawful non-consensual intimate imagery;
  • sexually exploits or sexualizes children;
  • contains malicious software or code;
  • attempts to compromise ORU or another user's account or device;
  • facilitates fraud or scams; or
  • otherwise materially harms another person or ORU.

Private correspondence is not permission to violate the law or another person's rights.

6. Letters and Relationships

ORU Letters are private communications between eligible ORU accounts. A new Letter to another person requires an accepted ORU relationship between the sender and recipient. A pending request is not enough to send a new Letter. Self-Letters are permitted according to the applicable ORU feature rules. If an accepted relationship is removed, new Letters are prevented until the relationship is accepted again. Removing a relationship does not automatically delete previously delivered Letters. ORU does not provide public Letter posting, anonymous chat, or random matching.

7. Blocking

ORU allows users to block another user. While a block remains active, new communication between the affected users is denied through ORU's normal communication features. A block is stronger than simply removing a relationship. Blocking does not automatically erase Letters that were already delivered or preserved. Unblocking removes the blocking restriction but does not automatically restore friendship, accept a pending request, or recreate a relationship. Attempting to evade another user's block may result in account restriction or termination.

8. Reporting

Users may report a received Letter or sender for concerns including:

  • harassment or bullying;
  • sexual or inappropriate content;
  • threats or violence;
  • spam or scams;
  • illegal content; or
  • other safety concerns.

A report does not automatically include the plaintext contents of the Letter. Where ORU offers an Include Letter option, you may explicitly choose to disclose the specific reported Letter for review. If you voluntarily include a Letter in a report, you authorize ORU to process that specific content for purposes including:

  • investigating the report;
  • protecting users;
  • enforcing these Terms;
  • preventing abuse; and
  • complying with applicable law.

This does not give ORU general access to unrelated private Letters, Journals, or future communications. Reported Letter plaintext is scheduled to expire from ORU's active report records after approximately 30 days. Other report metadata is scheduled to expire after approximately 180 days.

9. Safety Safeguards

ORU uses safeguards intended to reduce abuse while preserving the privacy of ordinary correspondence. These include:

  • accepted-relationship requirements;
  • blocking;
  • reporting; and
  • limited on-device safety checks before certain Letters are encrypted and sent.

The local safety safeguard may:

  • prevent clearly prohibited content from being sent; or
  • warn about lower-confidence concerning language.

This safeguard is intentionally narrow. It is not comprehensive content moderation and does not guarantee that all harmful or prohibited communications will be identified. Ordinary private Letters are not centrally scanned in plaintext by ORU.

10. Safety Enforcement

We may review safety reports and may take reasonable action including:

  • warning a user;
  • limiting communication;
  • maintaining or enforcing safety restrictions;
  • suspending functionality;
  • suspending an account;
  • terminating an account; or
  • preserving relevant information where required for safety or law.

We do not guarantee that every violation will be detected or result in a particular enforcement action.

11. ORU Free

ORU may provide a free level of service. For V1, ORU Free is intended to include:

  • up to 30 normal Journals;
  • access to eligible existing archive content; and
  • no included cloud Media Preservation allowance.

Limits may be enforced by the service. Deleting eligible content may affect applicable Journal capacity according to current product behavior.

12. ORU Lifetime

ORU Lifetime is a one-time in-app purchase. ORU Lifetime is intended to unlock core ownership features including:

  • unlimited normal personal Journals;
  • eligible Letter-sending features; and
  • other Lifetime functionality identified in the app at the time of purchase.

ORU Lifetime is associated with the original ORU account and App Store purchase relationship through which ownership is established. ORU Lifetime is not freely transferable between ORU accounts. ORU Lifetime does not include Media Preservation. Media Preservation is a separate recurring service because continuing media storage creates continuing infrastructure costs. The App Store price displayed at the time of purchase controls the transaction.

13. Media Preservation

Media Preservation is an optional recurring subscription for cloud preservation of eligible encrypted private media. V1 plans are intended to provide:

  • 5 GB of preserved-media capacity;
  • 20 GB of preserved-media capacity; or
  • 50 GB of preserved-media capacity.

For the initial Thai storefront, intended pricing is:

  • 5 GB — ฿199/year
  • 20 GB — ฿599/year
  • 50 GB — ฿1,199/year

Media Preservation is billed annually unless the App Store product expressly states otherwise. The actual localized App Store price displayed at purchase controls and may vary by country, currency, tax, or Apple's pricing rules.

14. Media Processing

ORU transforms selected media into an archive-optimized preserved representation before cloud storage. ORU does not promise to store an exact byte-for-byte copy of the original source file. For V1:

  • still images may be converted locally to JPEG;
  • unnecessary metadata may be removed;
  • Live Photos selected through the image workflow preserve the still component only;
  • accepted video is limited to a maximum duration of two minutes;
  • preserved video is limited to a maximum resolution of 720p;
  • video may be transcoded while preserving appropriate orientation and aspect ratio;
  • audio may be compressed or normalized as appropriate; and
  • private media is encrypted before cloud preservation.

The original source file may be discarded from ORU's processing path after creation of the preserved representation.

15. Media Storage Calculation

Media Preservation usage is based on the size of the encrypted preserved media stored by ORU, not the size of the discarded source file. For example, a large source video converted into a smaller preserved 720p encrypted object consumes storage based on the preserved encrypted object. ORU may reserve storage during an upload and reconcile the final stored size after completion.

16. Media Encryption

ORU encrypts private preserved media before cloud storage. Encrypted media may use independently generated cryptographic keys protected through ORU's archive-key architecture. Cloud-storage infrastructure is not intended to receive the archive keys required to decrypt private preserved media.

17. Media Storage Limits

Your Media Preservation plan has a storage quota. If adding media would exceed your available quota, ORU may refuse or postpone the preservation operation until sufficient storage becomes available or your plan changes. ORU may use reasonable reservation, synchronization, and reconciliation mechanisms to prevent storage limits from being exceeded across multiple devices.

18. Media Preservation Renewal and Cancellation

Media Preservation is an auto-renewable subscription processed by Apple. Unless cancelled according to Apple's App Store rules, the subscription may renew automatically. You can manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple account. Deleting your ORU account does not itself cancel an App Store subscription. You should separately cancel an active Media Preservation subscription through Apple if you do not want future renewal. ORU does not control Apple's billing, refund, payment-method, or subscription-management systems.

19. What Happens When Media Preservation Ends

Ending Media Preservation does not cancel ORU Lifetime. Ending Media Preservation does not by itself delete Journal text. When Media Preservation expires:

  • new cloud-media preservation may be disabled;
  • access to applicable existing media may continue temporarily;
  • ORU may provide a grace period, retrieval period, or export opportunity; and
  • preserved cloud media may eventually be deleted after the applicable retention or grace process.

ORU does not promise permanent cloud preservation after the applicable Media Preservation subscription and retention period have ended. The exact grace period may evolve and may be communicated through the app, support documentation, or another reasonable service notice.

20. Purchases

Purchases made in the iOS application are processed through Apple's App Store. Apple's payment terms, refund rules, taxes, and purchase procedures apply to the transaction. ORU may use RevenueCat or similar infrastructure to verify purchases and maintain entitlements. You must not attempt to:

  • falsify purchase receipts;
  • manipulate subscription status;
  • reuse another person's purchase;
  • bypass account-ownership controls; or
  • obtain paid functionality without authorization.

21. Purchase Restoration

Where supported, ORU provides a Restore Purchase function. Restoration may require verification of:

  • the applicable App Store purchase;
  • the ORU account associated with the purchase; and
  • ORU's ownership and anti-transfer protections.

A valid App Store transaction does not necessarily give every ORU account a right to claim the same permanent entitlement. This helps protect the original account owner and prevent unintended transfer of ownership.

22. Refunds

Apple controls refunds for purchases processed through the App Store. Requests for refunds should normally be made through Apple's applicable refund process. Nothing in these Terms limits refund rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

23. Archive Export

ORU may provide tools allowing you to export eligible archive information. Export availability, file format, and included data may depend on the feature and version of ORU. ORU will not intentionally require an active paid subscription merely to use the free archive-export capability provided by the product.

24. Availability and Changes

We work to keep ORU available and reliable, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We may modify:

  • technical infrastructure;
  • functionality;
  • storage systems;
  • limits;
  • supported formats;
  • security systems; or
  • features where reasonably necessary to improve ORU, maintain security, comply with law, or continue operating the service.

We will not intentionally convert a valid ORU Lifetime purchase into a recurring subscription.

25. Security

You must not:

  • attempt to bypass ORU security;
  • access another user's account or encrypted data without authorization;
  • interfere with ORU infrastructure;
  • introduce malicious code;
  • abuse API or network infrastructure;
  • circumvent blocks or safety controls; or
  • use automated systems in a way that materially disrupts the service.

We may take reasonable steps to protect ORU and its users against suspected security threats.

26. Account Suspension or Restriction

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate an account where reasonably necessary because of:

  • serious or repeated violation of these Terms;
  • unlawful activity;
  • threats, harassment, exploitation, or abuse;
  • security threats;
  • fraud;
  • repeated attempts to evade user blocks;
  • unauthorized access; or
  • a legal requirement.

Where appropriate and legally permitted, we may provide notice. We will not intentionally use suspension as a mechanism to confiscate a valid ORU Lifetime purchase without legitimate cause.

27. Account Deletion

You may initiate deletion of your ORU account through the app. Account deletion may remove encrypted archive data and other account information and may be irreversible. Before deleting your account:

  • export anything you want to preserve where export is available;
  • understand that encrypted content may not be recoverable afterward; and
  • separately cancel any active App Store subscription if you do not want future renewal.

Certain limited records may be retained where reasonably necessary for:

  • legal compliance;
  • accounting;
  • fraud prevention;
  • security;
  • safety investigations;
  • dispute resolution; or
  • enforcement of permanent purchase ownership.

Safety reports may remain until the applicable retention period expires. Blocks created by other users may remain to preserve their safety preferences. Deleting an ORU account does not require Apple or other independent providers to delete records they maintain under their own obligations.

28. Intellectual Property

ORU's application, branding, interface, designs, text, graphics, software, architecture, and other materials owned by ORU are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership of ORU intellectual property to you. You receive a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use ORU according to these Terms.

29. Feedback

If you voluntarily provide suggestions, ideas, bug reports, or other feedback about ORU, you permit us to use that feedback to improve ORU without an obligation to compensate you. This does not give ORU ownership of your private Journal, Letter, or archive content.

30. Third-Party Services

ORU depends on services provided by third parties including Apple and infrastructure, authentication, payment, and hosting providers. Your use of those services may also be subject to their terms. ORU is not responsible for third-party systems outside our reasonable control.

31. Disclaimers

ORU is provided on an “as available” basis to the extent permitted by applicable law. We do not guarantee:

  • uninterrupted availability;
  • that all software will always be error-free;
  • indefinite compatibility with every device;
  • that safety safeguards will identify every prohibited communication;
  • recovery of encrypted information after all recovery credentials are lost; or
  • indefinite preservation of Media Preservation content after the applicable subscription and retention period have ended.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or protections that cannot legally be excluded.

32. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ORU and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the service. This includes, where legally permitted, losses resulting from:

  • loss of recovery credentials;
  • device failure;
  • unauthorized access caused by compromised credentials;
  • third-party infrastructure failure; or
  • loss of content after a clearly disclosed retention period has expired.

Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including mandatory consumer-protection rights.

33. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to be responsible for claims or losses resulting from your unlawful use of ORU, violation of another person's rights, or material violation of these Terms. This section does not apply where prohibited by applicable consumer law.

34. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy describes how personal information is processed in connection with ORU and forms part of the overall terms governing use of the service.

35. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms when ORU changes or when legal or operational requirements change. For material changes, we will provide reasonable notice where required by law. Continued use after an updated version takes effect constitutes acceptance where permitted by law. Changes will not retroactively convert a valid ORU Lifetime purchase into a recurring subscription.

36. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Thailand, without prejudice to mandatory consumer rights or protections that may apply under the laws of your place of residence. Disputes will be subject to courts with jurisdiction under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms deprives you of protections that cannot legally be waived.

37. Apple

If you obtain ORU through Apple's App Store:

  • these Terms are between you and ORU, not Apple;
  • Apple is not responsible for providing ORU or its support services except as required under Apple's own terms;
  • purchases and subscriptions are subject to applicable App Store terms;
  • Apple and its subsidiaries may have rights as third-party beneficiaries where required by terms governing App Store distribution; and
  • your use of ORU must comply with applicable App Store rules and terms.
